Squads and training

Training squads are formed in line with Swimming Australia “Multi Year Age Group Swimmer Development Model.” This means that squads are selected on the following criteria:

  •  satisfactory development of skills and technique

  • ability to cope with the volume and intensity of work

  • preparation and desire to work in the program.

Nightcliff Swimming Club has a minimum standard for joining each squad. Mini squad members need to be at least 5 years of age and be able to swim 25 m in each of backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle.

New swimmers who need to be assessed for squads can attend at the pool on Fridays between 3.30 pm and 4.00 pm for assessment by the coach. Please email the Club for an assessment appointment.

Special and holiday training programs

Special training arrangements may be put in place during school holidays. Parents and swimmers will be notified by the coach of any special training programs and any relevant training fee arrangements at the beginning of each school holiday period. To ensure each individual has a training schedule suitable for his or her specific needs, it is recommended that swimmers and their parents discuss their requirements with the coach. The coach is available after each coaching session if there are any concerns.
